Children and families today find it difficult to memorize traditional prayers. They are busy with sports, computer games, friends, and social life. Moreover, they are bombarded with bad influences from our faith-free society and temptations from the power of darkness surrounding them. Realizing the challenges our children and families face and hoping to give parents a hand in fostering a strong faith life and habit of prayer, Rev. Peter G. Vu has written this Prayer Book for Children and Family. It is designed for children and families to pray together.
Start each week by praying on Sunday with a special topic, reflecting on it with a bible story, having a discussion, and then practicing each week’s Christian quality with concrete actions. For months with a fifth week, the Prayer Book includes a section called “The Fifth Week of the Month.” Rev. Vu’s method is simple, personal, relatable, character-building, and suitable to a busy life for children and family in our modern times.
This Weekly Prayer Book helps our children and families begin the week on the right note and encourages them to work on specific attributes such as friendship, faith, love, generosity, forgiveness, and thankfulness. If you have watched the news and had a personal encounter with our young, you have to admit the world is in desperate need of character building and moral guidance creates good citizens and a healthy society. Unfortunately, political correctness and social trends have relegated moral character and great personal attributes to the back seat, in favor of other qualities such as appearance, charm, glamor, fame, social status, and possessions. We must demand and encourage our children and future generations to work on and acquire Christian qualities and other moral characteristics for the sake of their well-being and happiness.
Having seen the needs of God’s children during twenty years of serving them and their families in parishes and ten years of seminary training, Rev. Peter G. Vu designed a format of praying rooted in Holy Scriptures, daily topics, personal experiences, and practical spiritual exercises. The format is self-reflecting, easy to read, and will help children work on important qualities while spending time in the presence of Jesus.
Rev. Vu chose the title of the book Lord Jesus, I want to see… after prayerfully reflecting on the miracles that Jesus performed during His ministry and the problems our children face today. Like the blind, our Children do not seem to see what is right or wrong in our confusing world. Rev. Vu also observed that many children feel blindness is more difficult to endure compared to other problems such as being deaf, mute, or paralyzed. Rev. Vu’s hope is that our Lord Jesus will heal the spiritual blindness of our children and families and show them a better vision for their lives. May they also grow closer to Him and acquire wonderful personal qualities each day as they work to become better Christians in this challenging world.
